Basketball Recap: Pleasant Grove Skates Past Mountain Crest with Ease

Pleasant Grove extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday, bumping them up to 5-0. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Mountain Crest Mustangs 81-51. Fans of the Vikings have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Pleasant Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Janiece Sikander led the charge by dropping a double-double with 18 points and ten assists. Sikander is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Sutton Villa, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Pleasant Grove was working as a unit and finished the game with 30 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 20 assists every time they've taken the court this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mountain Crest fell to 3-1. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Pleasant Grove is ranked first).

Emersyn Brown and Bella Carroll certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Brown posted 16 points, while Carroll shot 41% from the field to rack up 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Addisyn LaRocco, who scored six points.

Pleasant Grove wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 79-21 victory against Granger on the 4th. As for Mountain Crest, they have also already played their next game, a 65-30 win against Rich on the 5th.
