On Tuesday, the Chaparral Wolverines faced the Douglas County Huskies in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Chaparral narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Douglas County 65-63. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Chaparral has posted yet this season.
Chaparral was led to victory by Gavin Carter and Christian Williams. Carter scored 20 points along with six rebounds, while Williams scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brodie Mason, who scored 13 points.
Douglas County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Anthony Nettles, who scored 23 points along with four steals. Nettles is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Reilly Guerra was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with nine assists and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Douglas County were working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chaparral only posted 12 assists.
Chaparral has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Douglas County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-5.
Chaparral will be playing in front of their home fans against Legend at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Legend will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 51st, while Chaparral is ranked eighth). As for Douglas County, they will head out on the road to face off against Castle View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Castle View is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
