The Lanham Christian Lions 's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on February 5th. Lanham Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully the Mustangs like a good challenge.
Lanham Christian stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Bethel Academy 93-64 at home. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Lanham Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Diego Joy, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Joy pulled down eight or more rebounds. Tre Ray was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Southern Maryland Christian Academy pushed their score all the way to 75 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Takoma Academy at home by a decisive 90-75 margin. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (58), Southern Maryland Christian Academy still had to take the loss.
Lanham Christian's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.8 points per game. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.
Lanham Christian beat the Mustangs 79-69 when the teams last played back in January. Will Lanham Christian repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
