The John Paul II Centurions suffered their biggest loss since November 28, 2023 on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 71-37 loss at the hands of Hill Country Christian School of Austin. While losing is never fun, John Paul II can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1214th, while Hill Country Christian School of Austin is ranked 314th).
Loss or not, John Paul II got some senior leadership from Joseph Mata and Eliseo Garcia. Mata dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Garcia. scored 16 points along with three steals. Mata is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 13 games he's played.
John Paul II has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-20 record this season. As for Hill Country Christian School of Austin, the victory was the 15th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-2.
John Paul II will be playing at home against Veritas Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Veritas Academy is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. Hill Country Christian School of Austin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
