Canyon View is a perfect 3-0 against Buckeye since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Jaguars will be playing at home against the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Canyon View has 12 straight victories, Buckeye has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
While Canyon View's win against Verrado wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Jaguars' pitcher stepped up to hand the Vipers a 1-0 shutout on Thursday. The one-run effort marked the Jaguars' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
The result came thanks to Landon Hood's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Canyon View saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max King, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Buckeye didn't have quite enough to beat North Canyon on Thursday and fell 8-6. That's two games in a row now that the Hawks have lost by exactly two runs.
Mayco Morales was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Buckeye is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-14 otherwise. Morales was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, David Castaneda was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs. Nate Bunger was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Canyon View's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Buckeye, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
Everything went Canyon View's way against Buckeye in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Canyon View made off with a 13-2 victory. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
