4A Region 3 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Yazoo County extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 3 this week by beating Riverside, 39-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Panthers.
Yazoo County moved up to 90 from 123 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Quentin Euell's team was able to make the jump by beating the Bulldogs 39-0.
Greenwood's dynamic duo of Kwadra Griggs and Tyrone Weaver proved tough for East Side to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Griggs threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns and Weaver had 120 yards receiving. Booker T. Chambers helped Greenwood's passing attack out by catching four balls for 46 yards.
Jason Young was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 107 yards on 23 carries as Cleveland lost to the Trojans. Anadonte Maxie also contributed to the rushing game with 74 yards on the ground.
Greenwood's Griggs and Korey Robertson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Region 3 in both passing and receiving yards. Griggs has thrown for 1352 yards this season, while Robertson, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 33 catches for 542 yards. Ladarius Brown from Gentry leads the league in rushing with 529 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Rams take on the Wildcats. At the moment, Gentry is in second, while Cleveland is in third.
Amanda Elzy took down Marshall 54-8 last week, the largest margin of any game.
