Wendell Carter Jr. of
Pace Academy (Atlanta, Ga.) became the 13th five-star prospect since 2014 to commit to head coach Mike Mike Krzyzewski and the Duke Blue Devils on Wednesday morning.
Regarded as the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2017 class by 247Sports, Pace chose Duke over strong recruiting pushes from Georgia, Georgia Tech and Harvard – though he was long considered a lock to head to Durham.
Carter revealed his choice via a Bleacher Report-produced video he posted on Twitter.
The 6-foot-10, 260 power forward/center averaged 21.6 points, 13.6 rebounds and 5.5 blocked shots per game during the 2015-16 season, leading Pace Academy to Georgia's Class AA state title. He earned first team MaxPreps Junior All-American honors.
Carter is also a two-time gold medalist with USA Basketball, averaging 10.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game last summer in Spain at the FIBA U17 World Championship.
The Blue Devils also have Class of 2017 commitments from Top 10 prospect
Gary Trent Jr. of
Prolific Prep Academy (Napa, Calif.) and Top 100 guard
Alex O'Connell of
Milton (Ga.).
