The North Star Cougars came tearing into Thursday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Rockwood 76-32 at home. North Star has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 25 points or more this season.
Andy Retassie continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 18 points along with eight assists and six steals. Retassie is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Weimer, who scored 17 points.
Rockwood lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Isaac Adams, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zander Ritenour, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Rockwood struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as North Star pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
North Star's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Rockwood, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-10.
North Star won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Ligonier Valley at 7:15 p.m. on January 12th. Ligonier Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 615th, while North Star is ranked 226th). As for Rockwood, they will head out on the road to face off against Shanksville Stonycreek at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
