The Yuma Criminals took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday. They came out on top against Agua Fria by a score of 61-54. This was payback for Yuma, who suffered a 76-59 loss the last time these two teams met.
Yuma's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Estevan Moreno, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds. Reggie Antone was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
David Shaw and Jonathan Daniels jr certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Shaw scored 14 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals, while Daniels jr scored 8 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Shaw scored a full 25.9% of Agua Fria's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Yuma's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Agua Fria, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yuma will take on Paradise Honors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Paradise Honors knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Yuma likes a good challenge. As for Agua Fria, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Desert Edge at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Desert Edge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Agua Fria in Arizona (Desert Edge is ranked 102nd, while Agua Fria is ranked 225th).
