Okeechobee is 10-0 against Westwood since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Okeechobee Brahmans will play host again and welcome the Westwood Panthers, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Okeechobee beat Lake Placid 41-28. Given Okeechobee's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while Lake Placid is ranked 347th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Okeechobee can attribute much of their success to Oliver Saunders, who scored 18 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. The contest was Saunders' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of John White iii, who scored 4 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Even though Westwood has not done well against Martin County recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Westwood had just enough and edged Martin County out 56-54.
Westwood's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Marquan Burgess, who scored 16 points, and Jacob Mills, who scored 19 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Burgess has scored at least 25% of Westwood's points.
Okeechobee pushed their record up to 3-0 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Westwood, their win bumped their record up to 1-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Okeechobee and Westwood are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Okeechobee hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 53.3 points per game. It's a different story for Westwood, though, as they've been averaging only 55.7 per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run up the score up higher Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Everything came up roses for Okeechobee against Westwood in their previous meeting back in February as the team secured a 62-33 win. Will Okeechobee repeat their success, or does Westwood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
