Softball Game Preview: Chincoteague Ponies vs. Nandua Warriors

The Chincoteague Ponies will venture away from home to face off against the Nandua Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nandua took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Chincoteague, who comes in off a win.

Chincoteague is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Northampton with a sharp 18-2 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Ponies, who have now won nine games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Caitlyn McPherson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Carmela Rosanova was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Meredith Wright, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Chincoteague kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northampton only managed six hits.

Meanwhile, Nandua fell victim to Arcadia and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to the Firebirds. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Warriors' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Chincoteague has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Nandua, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

Chincoteague took their win against Nandua in their previous matchup on May 1st by a conclusive 13-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Ponies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
