The Wheatmore Warriors will head out to challenge the West Davidson Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Wheatmore's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
Wheatmore is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Salisbury 17-10 on Thursday. Considering the Warriors have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Kyndal Kindley, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kiayla Burnette, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-6.
Kindley wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Wheatmore kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 24 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for West Davidson, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past South Stanly 4-3.
Hannah Rollins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Gracie Michael was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Wheatmore's win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1. As for West Davidson, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
West Davidson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wheatmore hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .467. It's a different story for West Davidson, though, as they've only averaged .197. Will they be able to contain Wheatmore's hitters?
Wheatmore came out on top in a nail-biter against West Davidson in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 10-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wheatmore since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
