The Susan Moore Bulldogs will head out to face off against the West End Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Susan Moore has given up an average of 14.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Susan Moore's offense. They came up short against Southeastern last Tuesday, falling 18-0. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, West End came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.
Braylee King made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, West End let DaLeigha Wheeler and Addie Pierce run wild. Wheeler went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Pierce went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Wheeler launched this season. Emma Franklin was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
West End lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
West End's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Susan Moore, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
Susan Moore might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from West End in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
