Softball Recap: Lakewood Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Lakewood had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 10-7 win over the Utica Redskins. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-5 back in April.

Ashlyn Carder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Carly Williams was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Averie Adams, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lakewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.

Lakewood's victory bumped their record up to 18-4. As for Utica, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakewood will venture away from home to face off against Danville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Utica, they will head out to take on Newark Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
