Basketball Recap: Lakeland Christian Comes Up Short

Lakeland Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They took a 64-45 bruising from the Carrollwood Day Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 683rd, while the Patriots are ranked 260th).

When it comes to explaining why Lakeland Christian lost, don't look at DJ Howard. Despite the final result, he made all 9 shots he took for 18 points. The match was Howard's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Colton Donahue, who made all 5 shots he took to post 11 points.

Carrollwood Day's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Moses Allen led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. Allen is becoming a predictor of Carrollwood Day's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 3-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Boland, who made all 7 shots he took to post 15 points and six rebounds.

Lakeland Christian's loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Carrollwood Day, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-6.

Lakeland Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-29 victory against All Saints' Academy on the 7th. As for Carrollwood Day, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-65 defeat against Zephyrhills Christian Academy on the 9th.
