Muir is 0-10 against Burroughs since March of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Mustangs are taking a road trip to face off against the Bears at 3:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
Muir's last matchup with Crescenta Valley could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Tuesday. The Mustangs came up short against the Falcons, falling 14-2.
Sidney Sims put in work while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Jaslene Hernandez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Burroughs fell victim to Arcadia and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Apaches. Considering the last time the Bears couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
Valentina Reyes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
Muir's loss dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Burroughs, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-11.
Muir's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Mustangs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Burroughs, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Muir continue to outrun the ball?
Muir might still be hurting after the 7-0 loss they got from Burroughs in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
