This season hasn't been kind to the Spartanburg Day Griffins, who are still winless after their fourth match. 2024 welcomed they with a 56-32 loss courtesy of High Point Academy on Friday. Spartanburg Day has struggled against High Point Academy recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
High Point Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Chantel Lyles out in front who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cherri Yates, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
Spartanburg Day bumped their record down to 0-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.7 points per game. As for High Point Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spartanburg Day will take on Prince Avenue Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. High Point Academy and St. Joseph's Catholic will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully St. Joseph's Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday.
