Baseball Recap: Monticello Comes Up Short

After flying high against Nucla on Thursday, Monticello came back down to earth. The Buckaroo lost 20-6 to the San Juan Broncos on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Broncos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-2 on Tuesday.

Cache Young made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Monticello: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jaeden Camacho, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Monticello's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for San Juan, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-4.

Coming up, Monticello will square off against Grand County at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.6 runs per game on average), something the Buckaroo will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for San Juan, they will face off against North Sevier at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Broncos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
