Basketball Recap: Southside Christian Takes a Loss

Southside Christian lost against Hilltop Christian back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Southside Christian Warriors had to suffer through a 66-21 loss at the hands of the Hilltop Christian Chargers. The Warriors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-11.

Despite the loss, Southside Christian still got an impressive performance from Zach Pope, who posted five points and eight rebounds. Pope is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played.

Caleb Manriquez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Hilltop Christian, going 10 of 14 on his way to 26 points in addition to six assists and six boards. That's the most assists Manriquez has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph McCabe, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Southside Christian dropped their record down to 5-6 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Hilltop Christian, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southside Christian will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Wilson Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. After both having extra time off, Hilltop Christian and Jacksonville Christian Academy will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Hilltop Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60 points per game this season.
