Providence Day proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Independence Patriots 4-2. Winning may never get old, but the Chargers sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Providence Day got a great performance from Owen Shirey as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Shirey also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Chargers are 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cullen Ward, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Providence Day's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-10 when he doesn't).
The win got Providence Day back to even at 10-10. As for Independence, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-13.
