The Auburn Tigers entered their tilt with the Opelika Bulldogs with 11 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 12. Auburn snuck past Opelika with a 65-61 victory on Tuesday. Given Auburn's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Opelika is ranked 159th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Bradley Pearson, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Griffin Mclean, who scored 17 points.
Auburn's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Opelika, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Auburn will face off against Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 639 points over their last eight matches. Opelika's road trip will continue as they head out to face Smiths Station at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Smiths Station is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
