The Harker Heights Knights will face off against the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, Harker Heights needed a bit of extra time to put away Bryan. They skirted past the Vikings 15-13. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won four in a row.
The team relied heavily on Brianna Warriner, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Lewansi Luna Guzman, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Harker Heights hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 14-2 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Copperas Cove won against Killeen last Friday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Bulldawgs didn't even let Bryan on the board, marking the Bulldawgs' second-straight 15-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldawgs have won nine games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Janell Gray made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Brenna Butler was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with seven RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Laila LaCapra was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Copperas Cove is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Harker Heights, their victory bumped their record up to 19-8.
Harker Heights' speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. The Knights have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Copperas Cove, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Harker Heights continue to outrun the ball?
Harker Heights suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Copperas Cove in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
