The Amelia Academy Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 51-40 to Fuqua. If Amelia Academy hoped to take revenge for the 31-26 loss against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Amelia Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Troy Hill and Kyle Anderson. Hill scored 20 points along with two steals, while Anderson scored five points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. That was a full 50% of Amelia Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Long, who scored four points along with five steals.
It was another big night for Sam Minix, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 21 rebounds for Fuqua. Minix is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Pleasants, who scored 14 points.
Amelia Academy's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Fuqua, their victory ended a 11-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Amelia Academy will take on Banner Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Banner Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 15 matches. As for Fuqua, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Kenston Forest at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Kenston Forest presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Fuqua in Virginia (Kenston Forest is ranked 184th, while Fuqua is ranked 420th).
