The Culbertson Cowboys and the Savage Warriors will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Culbertson is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
Even though Culbertson has not done well against MonDak [Westby/Grenora] recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Culbertson blew past MonDak [Westby/Grenora] 56-33. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Culbertson has posted since December 15, 2023.
Nyreece Halvorson had a dynamite game for Culbertson, scoring 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Halvorson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Dawson Bergum, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Savage came tearing into Saturday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Wibaux 56-28 on the road. Savage has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 20 points or more this season.
Culbertson's victory bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Savage, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Culbertson came up short against Savage in their previous meeting on January 5th, falling 42-36. Can Culbertson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
