The Priest River Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Newport Grizzlies at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 73-22, which was the final score in Priest River's tilt against Grangeville on Saturday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Priest River has scored all season.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Newport, who are still winless after their 14th match. They were beaten by Lakeside 53-3 on Tuesday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Newport in their matchups with Lakeside: they've now lost four in a row.
This is the second loss in a row for Priest River and nudges their season record down to 3-3. As for Newport, their loss was their 13th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-14.
Everything came up roses for Priest River against Newport in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 56-23 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Priest River since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
