The Harrison Central Red Rebels and the Brandon Bulldogs squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Harrison Central Red Rebels had to settle for second. Harrison Central was dealt a 41-13 loss at the hands of Brandon. While losing is never fun, Harrison Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Brandon is ranked second).
When it comes to explaining why Harrison Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tri Gaughf. Despite the final result, he threw for 253 yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
Brandon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Landon Varnes led the charge by throwing for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Brandon also got a significant boost from Tyson Robinson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.
Harrison Central has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Brandon, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Harrison Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Brandon will face off against Pearl at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
