Lakota extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-6 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Woodmore Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-9 last Tuesday.
Grant Bomer was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. Bomer was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Graham Harmon made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Grant Scherger was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
As for Woodmore, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.
Like Lakota, Woodmore also got a great game from a two-way player: Michael Seeger. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Seeger was also big at the plate, earning two RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
Seeger wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Calvin Lipstraw, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave Lipstraw a new career-high. Another was Robert Seeger, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Lakota will take on rival Danbury at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Woodmore is set to square off against their familiar foe New Riegel at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
