The Pike County Pirates managed to keep up with the Peach County Trojans until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Pike County was the victim of a rough 78-56 defeat at the hands of Peach County. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (55), Pike County still had to take the loss.
Pike County's loss came despite strong showings from Yadiel Rosado and Nazarious McDowell. Rosado scored 20 points along with five rebounds and five steals, while McDowell scored 18 points along with two steals. Rosado hasn't dropped below 16 points for six straight games.
Peach County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dylan Johnson led the charge by almost dropping a triple-double on 14 points, nine rebounds, and 11 steals. Another player making a difference was Cam Cherry, who scored 28 points along with four steals.
Pike County has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Peach County, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.
Pike County will head out on the road to take on Strong Rock Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pike County is coming into the contest with three straight defeats on the road, meaning Strong Rock Christian will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. As for Peach County, they and Crisp County will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Crisp County is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season.
