The Sacred Heart Valkyries are on the road again on Friday and plays the Dixie Heights Colonels at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
A well-balanced attack led Sacred Heart over the Centurions in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Sacred Heart blew past the Centurions 66-40. Sacred Heart pushed the score to 49-28 by the end of the third, a deficit the Centurions had little chance of recovering from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sacred Heart to victory, but perhaps none more so than ZaKiyah Johnson, who dropped a triple-double on 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. It was the first time this season that Johnson posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Bender, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Dixie Heights had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.2 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They blew past Ludlow, posting a 63-28 victory at home.
Sacred Heart's win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-7. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for Dixie Heights, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
Everything came up roses for Sacred Heart against the Colonels when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 67-40 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sacred Heart since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
