A classic North v. South matchup is on the schedule. The Elkhorn South Storm will be playing at home against the Millard North Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Elkhorn South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Elkhorn South's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Monday, when they got past Omaha Westside's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Storm walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Warriors. The Storm haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Cam Cooper and Brody Jindra made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Cooper pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Jindra struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. At bat, Cooper scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4, while Jindra scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Cooper a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eamon O'Gorman, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooks Berliner, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Millard North waltzed into their game on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Griffins. While the Mustangs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Noah Gartner tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.
On the hitting side, Alex Buresh was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Tanner Evans was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Millard North's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Elkhorn South, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Elkhorn South hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Millard North struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Elkhorn South beat Millard North 9-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Storm repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
