4A Oregon West recap October 8, 2013
Philomath extended the longest winning streak in 4A Oregon West this week by beating Taft, 55-14. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Newport made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,929 from 11,489. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 37-19 victory over Stayton last week.
Central's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ben Finnegan threw for 185 and 5 touchdowns and Colby Jackson had 71 yards receiving. On the ground Wesley Riddell chipped in 96 yards. Aaron Hobgood helped Central's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 56 yards.
Tell Cruickshank was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Panthers defeated Cascade. The 6-foot-2 senior grabbed 1 interception.
He went 9-18 with 0 interceptions.
Riddell was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 96 yards on 18 carries as Central bested the Cougars. Cruickshank also contributed to the rushing game with 73 yards on the ground.
Central's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Panthers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Finnegan has thrown for 1,036 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Jackson has 19 catches for 314 yards.
At the moment, the Tigers are in fourth, while Shane Hedrick's team is in second.
Philomath led the league in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on Taft.
