South Dade is 7-1 against Homestead since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The South Dade Buccaneers on the road again and play against the Homestead Broncos at 4:30 p.m. on January 18th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
South Dade scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They managed a 56-50 win over Coral Reef. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for South Dade considering their 11-point performance the game before.
South Dade found their leader in underclassman Genesis Aguilar, who scored 31 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Aguilar has scored at least a third of South Dade's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lapatra Warren, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Homestead came tearing into Tuesday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down TERRA Environmental 36-21. Given Homestead's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while TERRA Environmental is ranked 347th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Homestead's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jayda Fisher, who scored four points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Ava Ferniza, who scored ten points along with two steals.
South Dade is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-8 record this season. As for Homestead, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
South Dade lost to Homestead on the road by a decisive 51-35 margin when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can South Dade avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
