Middleburgh was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 51-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sharon Springs Central Spartans. One positive for the Knights, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Middleburgh lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Payton Yung, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Yung has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lyla Kowalski, who posted 12 points and five rebounds.
Sharon Springs Central found their leader in freshman Zarie Barbic, who had 32 points and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barbic has scored all season. Sophia Insogna was another key player, putting up eight points and 11 rebounds.
Middleburgh's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Sharon Springs Central, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Middleburgh will square off against Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sharon Springs Central, they will head out to square off against Edmeston Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
