Buckhorn hasn't had much luck against Jackson City recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Buckhorn Wildcats duke it out with Jackson City Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Buckhorn is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Buckhorn made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Jenkins, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Buckhorn put the hurt on Jenkins with a sharp 15-5 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won three contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Parker Mayhew made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Mayhew was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Brayden Campbell was a standout: he scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Austin Riley was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Buckhorn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jenkins only posted an OBP of .296.
Meanwhile, Jackson City lost 16-3 to Wolfe County on Monday. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Wolves recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Jackson City saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Morgan, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-1.
Jackson City's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Buckhorn, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Jackson City's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Buckhorn hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .383. It's a different story for Jackson City, though, as they've only averaged .209. Will they be able to contain Buckhorn's hitters?
