Dell City has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Van Horn Eagles at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Reyes Espinoza and Gio Corralez.
Last Friday, Dell City ended up a good deal behind Marfa and lost 55-38.
Dell City's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Isaac Estrada, who scored ten points along with three steals, and Espinoza who scored 11 points along with three steals. Espinoza is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Josh Rector was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Van Horn's strategy against Sierra Blanca on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Van Horn blew Sierra Blanca out of the water with a 58-11 final score. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Van Horn had established a 42 point advantage.
Among those leading the charge was Joey Anchondo, who scored 16 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Pablo Mendez, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Dell City has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Van Horn, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 17-8.
Dell City was dealt a bruising 76-44 defeat at the hands of Van Horn in their previous meeting on January 3rd. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Corralez, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds. Now that Dell City knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
