Basketball Recap: Gilpin County Takes a Loss

Gilpin County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 30th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were outmatched by the Union Colony Prep Timberwolves and fell 85-40. One positive for the Eagles, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Despite the loss, Gilpin County had strong showings from Taurean Paxton, who posted seven points, and Sutton Sirayanone, who scored seven points and five rebounds. Sirayanone is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games.

Even though they lost, Gilpin County was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

It was another big night for Josiah Rodriguez, who went 10 for 17 on his way to 25 points in addition to eight boards and six assists for Union Colony Prep. The dominant performance also gave Rodriguez a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Tanner Sarchet, who went 7 of 12 en route to 17 points along with five assists and five steals.

Gilpin County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Union Colony Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Gilpin County has already played their next matchup, a 44-16 loss against West Grand on the 21st. As for Union Colony Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-58 defeat against Dayspring Christian Academy on the 21st.
