A big part of Denver West's victory came down to the chemistry between Marcelo Ortiz and his top target Robert Wittke. Ortiz threw for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes while Wittke picked up 91 receiving yards and one score. What's more, Ortiz racked up 160.4 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Nehemiah McIntosh got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Denver West, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Wittke, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Denver West's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB 5.5 times. Jorge Chavez refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Another thorn in Mitchell's side was Aries Uong, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made four total tackles (3.0 for loss).
The Classical Academy played against Lincoln on Thursday and won via forfeit.
