The Union Area Scotties will venture away from home to square off against the Wilmington Greyhounds at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Scotties fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Monday's season opener. Everything went their way against Riverside on Monday as Union Area made off with a 13-1 victory. The Scotties have beaten the Panthers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.

Mia Preuhs made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Preuhs was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI.
In other batting news, Addie Nogay and Olivia Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Nogay went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Williams went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Nogay has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Maddie Settle, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Union Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverside only posted an OBP of .211.
Meanwhile, Wilmington made easy work of Jamestown on Wednesday and carried off a 10-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Greyhounds.
Avery Harlan was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Jewell, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Union Area was able to grind out a solid victory over Wilmington in their previous meeting back in March of 2019, winning 8-4. Will Union Area repeat their success, or does Wilmington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
