The North Harrison Cougars will head out to take on the Muhlenberg County Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Harrison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
North Harrison is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Silver Creek just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Dragons by a score of 7-6.
Kendall Christie put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned runs off nine hits. Christie was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Christie wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grace Stevens, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Muhlenberg County came tearing into last Thursday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Ella Watkins was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Joshlynn Noe was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Muhlenberg County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McLean County only posted an OBP of .000.
North Harrison's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 11-3. As for Muhlenberg County, their victory bumped their record up to 14-8.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. North Harrison hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. However, it's not like Muhlenberg County struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
