The Nickerson Panthers suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 87-36 to Sunrise Christian Academy Silver, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Nickerson was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-20.
Nickerson's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alex King, who scored 14 points, and Riley Brawner who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
Sunrise Christian Academy Silver got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Canaan McElroy out in front who scored 17 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Marko Pavlovic, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Nickerson and nudges their season record down to 2-9. As for Sunrise Christian Academy Silver, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nickerson's road trip will continue as they head out to face Kingman at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Sunrise Christian Academy Silver, they will challenge St. Mary's Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
