Basketball Recap: Brenda Bafiba's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Marshall over Sotomayor

Marshall lost against Sotomayor back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Marshall Rams received a blow as they fell 52-34 to the Sotomayor WILDCATS. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 506th, while the WILDCATS are ranked 103rd).

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brenda Bafiba, who posted two points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Bafiba a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Jenell Flores, who put up seven points.

Sotomayor got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jordan Pete out in front who went 8 for 14 on her way to 17 points. The game was Pete's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Corina Barrera was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven boards.

Marshall now has a losing record at 12-13. As for Sotomayor, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.

Marshall didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-41 win against Harlan on the 17th. As for Sotomayor, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 63-29 victory against Holmes on the 17th.
