North Gwinnett (Suwanee, Ga.) took the lead for good when it threw a touchdown with 2:00 to go in the second quarter and held on to defeat
Mill Creek (Hoschton, Ga.) 47-28 on Saturday.
The Bulldogs were up 23-14 at the half after taking the lead on a passing touchdown in the second quarter.
North Gwinnett saw its 9-point halftime lead fall to two entering the fourth.
Led by
Kelsey Griffin, the Hawks came in surrendering 16.0 points per game this season. Mill Creek struggled against NG's offense, which entered the game scoring 32.4 points per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Suwanee school came away with a 29-7 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Mill Creek, which notched a 55-6 victory over Meadowcreek in its previous outing. With the win the Bulldogs extended their winning streak to three games.
Mill Creek (4-3) will play a AAAAAA Region 7 game against Duluth next week, while North Gwinnett (5-1) will take on Habersham Central also in a AAAAAA Region 7 game.
