The University Bulldogs will challenge the Mead Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. University will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.
University is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Strasburg a 15-0 shutout on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
University got a big performance out of Kaden Turk, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Max Davis was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
University always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mead and Erie meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. The Mavericks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Tigers.
Kaleb Walter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has become a key player for Mead: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 7-8 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Stryker Leick was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
University pushed their record up to 19-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Mead, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. University has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts.
