There's no place like home for the Paxton Tigers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Thursday. They managed a 60-55 win over Cambridge on Saturday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
It was another big night for Josh Eakins, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Paxton's points. Ethan Hardin was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Cambridge lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brohdey Wood, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. Wood has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Trompke, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
Even though they lost, Cambridge were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Paxton pushed their record up to 5-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Cambridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Paxton will take on Leyton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Leyton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Tuesday. As for Cambridge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Norton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Norton is ranked 72nd in Kansas, while Cambridge is ranked 69th in Nebraska).
