Softball Game Preview: Mineola Yellowjackets vs. Winona Wildcats

Mineola has gone a perfect 8-0 against Winona recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets will challenge the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Things were looking good for Mineola after they put the first runs on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Grand Saline by a score of 11-9. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jadelyn Marshall put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Kaitlyn McMahon made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Anna Castleberry, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

Meanwhile, Winona was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 23rd straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Quitman, falling 18-2. On the bright side, the two- run performance marked the Wildcats' highest-scoring game to date.

Mineola's record is now 12-10-2. As for Winona, their record now sits at 0-14.

Mineola took their victory against Winona in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 17-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
