After both having extra time off, the Heritage Academy Gateway Heroes and the Canyon State Academy Rams will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Heritage Academy Gateway sitting on seven straight wins and Canyon State Academy on three.
Heritage Academy Gateway stacked a fourth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard last Friday. They put the hurt on Empower College Prep with a sharp 64-42 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Heritage Academy Gateway has posted since November 20, 2023.
Heritage Academy Gateway relied on the efforts of Cayleb Couch, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, and Landon Johnston, who scored 19 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Couch has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Akin, who scored six points along with two steals and two blocks.
Canyon State Academy proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by 37) but two weeks ago they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged Sequoia Charter out 55-52.
Heritage Academy Gateway's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.2 points per game. As for Canyon State Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Heritage Academy Gateway took their win against Canyon State Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 63-41. Will Heritage Academy Gateway repeat their success, or does Canyon State Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
