On Tuesday, the Fort Collins Lambkins faced the Horizon Hawks in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Fort Collins took a 49-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Horizon. The loss was just more heartbreak for Fort Collins who fell 51-49 when the teams previously met back in January of 2022.
Several Lambkins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Avery Alcaraz, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Claire Wagstaff, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
It was another big night for Morgan Ives, who scored 23 points along with two steals for Horizon. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ives has scored all season. Kaitlin Schumann was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Fort Collins' defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Horizon, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-2.
Fort Collins will head out on the road to challenge Poudre at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Poudre is coming into the game with four straight victories at home, meaning Fort Collins will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. Horizon will take on Legacy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Legacy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Horizon is ranked seventh).
