It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 55-21 victory over Millbrook. The win was familiar territory for Cardinal Gibbons who now have eight in a row.
Cardinal Gibbons found their leader in underclassman Gannon Jones, who threw for 245 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes. Jones has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nic Leonard, who rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns.
Cardinal Gibbons' victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 9-3 Leesville Road and 8-4 Jordan (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 59.4% over those games). As for Millbrook, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3.
Cardinal Gibbons has the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome Clayton at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Clayton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Cardinal Gibbons likes a good challenge. Millbrook does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
