Montezuma-Cortez is 1-9 against Centauri since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The pair will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Montezuma-Cortez focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Saturday.
Montezuma-Cortez suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Saturday. They had to suffer through a rough 72-33 loss at the hands of Alamosa. Montezuma-Cortez has not had much luck with Alamosa recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Caidin Leonard, who scored 15 points. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Hall, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Centauri can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent game on Saturday. They put the hurt on Bayfield with a sharp 62-39 victory. Given Centauri's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Bayfield is ranked 290th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Montezuma-Cortez has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Centauri, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Montezuma-Cortez took a serious blow against Centauri when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 70-39. Can Montezuma-Cortez avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
