The Lincolnton Wolves will face off against the Pinnacle Classical Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
West Lincoln hit Lincolnton with a four-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wolves fell just short of the Rebels by a score of 7-6. The loss continues a trend for the Wolves in their meetings with the Rebels: they've now lost five in a row.
Lincolnton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karson Cloninger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Pinnacle Classical Academy entered their tilt with Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Gryphons with a sharp 9-2 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by seven runs or more this season.
Holden Austin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Eli Stroud was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Casey Greene was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Pinnacle Classical Academy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lincolnton, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-15.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lincolnton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pinnacle Classical Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
